The mechanism
How it works.
Selank is a short synthetic peptide based on tuftsin, a fragment of an immunoglobulin, with added residues that make it last longer and allow intranasal use. It is reported to shift the balance of GABA signaling and to raise brain growth factors such as BDNF, which is the proposed basis for its calming and nootropic effects, and tuftsin's origin also gives it mild immune-modulating activity. This evidence is mostly older, single-country Russian animal and clinical work and has not been confirmed in independent international trials.
